Samsung HMX-U10 Unboxing Review

Video Tests

Here’s a timelapse of some clouds, about 15mins in 15 seconds. This was not taken with the onboard timelapse feature. Just footage that has been sped up.

I took the Samsung U10 for a daytrip test with typical random videos and a bit of vlogging which I assume this camera is designed for. This is the result.

A couple of things worth mentioning, the 60fps works very nice. The camera doesn’t have any form of image stabilisation however with 60fps it’s much smoother to look at compared to 30fps. The image quality is degraded by the lack of detail in the highlights as I had backlight mode switched on by accident. I’ll upload another daily video soon. The low light performance is nothing to get excited about either.

Can’t Import Samsung U10 Video Files into Adobe Premiere

There seems to be an issue with the Samsung U10 video files and Adobe Premiere. When importing the videos, they show up as audio files. I’ve done some research on the net and the Flip video camera apparently has a similar issue. The solutions I found were to re encode the video file into a different format. This takes time and can reduce video quality. I’ve found a way to batch transcode video files into a format that Adobe Premiere will import. From what I gather there must be some issue with the Samsung U10′s way of encoding the videos or a problem with the index in the header of the mp4 files. This method is fast and does not effect video quality.

I recommend watching this tutorial video in fullscreen.

Firmware Update 1.01.3 > 1.02

Download Firmware from Samsung and follow their guide on how to flash the firmware. I’m yet to find any difference in quality or features with the new firmware.
